We're home! After a lovely two weeks of visiting family in Croatia, we're back in home-sweet-home Austin. Thank you to everyone for your prayers for my grandma; she is recovering, and it was wonderful to see Sammy greet his Nona with kisses.
Other highlights from our trip:
1. Samuel sleeping a good portion of the flight
2. Catching up with family over pohano (fried chicken cutlets) while adjusting to the time change
3. Seeing Tonka and Matija's new place (beautiful!)
4. Watching Sammy chase pigeons on the Main Square in Zagreb
5. Eating delicious pizza, cevapi (thank you, Jura, for taking us to cevapi-Mecca!), and kesten pire (pureed chestnuts with whipped cream!)
6. Great wine
7. Samuel's first trip to a zoo
8. Amazing gnocchi at restaurant Boban (twice...even had the same waiter...must have thought we were incapable of eating anywhere else)
9. Real fall weather
10. Light snow fall at the end of a very cold day
11. Homemade cherry strudel (BIG thank you to Nives and Baka Blanka!)
12. Meeting Jelena
13. Seeing the Adriatic Sea
14. Exploring Dubrovnik with Sammy
15. The medieval walls of Dubrovnik (most beautiful place ever)
16. Strangers telling us to dress Sammy warmer ("He's practicially naked!") though he was wearing two layers of clothing under a heavy coat and hood
17. Eating fresh calamari in a restaurant on Dubrovnik's old port
18. Seeing orange trees in bloom along Dubrovnik's walls
19. Date night (twice!) while Baka and Dida watched Sammy
20. That marzipan dessert at Slasticarna Orijent (yum!)
21. Eating pizza at Nocturno twice
22. Misunderstanding a question an old lady asked me on the tram (She asked how old Sammy was...I thought she asked what time it was and, having no watch, promptly responded "I don't know"...confused look on her face...realized my mistake)
23. Eating candied orange rind
24. Kremsnite (custard-like dessert from heaven)
25. Enjoying my aunt and uncle's immense hospitality and cooking skills
26. Watching The Stomach Virus attack first Nona, then my aunt Lili, then Baka Blanka, then Matija, then me, then Sammy, then my mom
27. Praying Sammy and I wouldn't be sick on the flight home (we did alright: Praise the Lord!)
28. Taking more pictures than should be allowed
29. Wondering why both the airline personelle and the airport in Frankfurt conspired against us to make our lives miserable ("Umm, yes, can we ask all 250 people at this gate to line up again for additional passport control?")
30. Marveling at how fast time flies: where did our vacation go?!
