Happy New Year to you all! We're back in Austin and sifting through laundry, rearranging toys, and attempting other post-Christmas projects (clean house, clean out refrigerator, go grocery shopping, remove Christmas decorations, write thank you notes, etc.). We had a great time in Houston but are glad to be home sweet home.
Here are a few pictures from our trip to the Houston Children's Museum and Discovery Green park. Samuel thoroughly enjoyed himself, though the highlight of our trip to the museum was the computer and keyboard "exhibit," where Sammy could finally FINALLY touch the keyboard/mouse/screen without hearing "That's a no-no keyboard! No touch! Mama said no. Do you need to go the corner to learn more about the no-no keyboard? Ok, corner time." The park was wonderful, and we even went twice! In one week. Wowsa. Samuel loved the acorns, rocks, large balloons with pictures of random children on them, giant trees, gazebo made out of recycled license plates (probably imported from Austin), and giant multi-colored "art" that looked a lot like a jungle gym but included a neat little sign asking children not to climb it, even though it "looks like fun" (actual words on posted sign). Just an idea: maybe next time make a piece of art not modeled after a jungle gym and placed in a park for children, eh, geniuses?

Oh, how I miss Houston's live oak trees! The park is huge and even boasts its own iceskating rink (because who wouldn't want to ice skate in 75 degree temperatures?) and lake. It also has a real jungle gym.
Samuel got to go back with his cousin Caiden Saturday afternoon, though sadly we have no pictures of the two of them running up the hill, transferring a pile of rocks from Oma to Opa, and generally seeming completely unaware of the other's existence. Our week and a half in Houston came to a close yesterday with a delicious chicken-fajitas-and-chips-and-salsa lunch at El Tiempo. Muy delicioso! (Sorry. Couldn't resist.) Then we headed to Empire Cafe for some late afternoon coffee and diaper changing. Really, now. Why, Samuel, must you poop twice in ten minutes at a cafe with a teeny tiny bathroom and lousy changing table?
Extra bonus? Sammy and I ran into a former Bachelor contestant while waiting for the restroom. Don't judge me. I've been known to watch a season or three of the world's dumbest "reality" show. Because, for some reason, I find it entertaining to watch the [usually stupid] women degrade themselves over a [usually stupid] man. Quality television, folks. Anyways, her name is Erica, a self-described "Princess" and "River Oaks Socialite," and I recognized her [terribly whiny and annoying] voice when she remarked, "Your baby is cute. Hi, baby." Watch this video of an interview she did two years ago: click here. Awesome. Just awesome.

i, too, profess to choose the most horrible show of the season and follow it...the bachelor definitely qualifies. when i work, i'll even put zach on duty to keep me updated...eek! erica was horrible and that clip made me cringe b/c she says the dumbest and meanest things...but she is ALWAYS honest and so when she said sammy was a cutie...you know it to be true : )
