Well, the Meurers had another lovely weekend. Baka and Dida came to see us Saturday morning, and the adoration of Samuel began! They were headed to San Antonio, celebrating their 3oth wedding anniversary (WOW!), but stopped for a brief but ever-so-nice visit with us. We had a great time eating and drinking coffee at all our favorite places! New development: Samuel became quite attached to his Dida and cried nearly every time Dida put him down. We think it might be the fact that Dida likes to take Samuel outside and "explore" (look at the birds, a.k.a. "tweet tweets," touch wind chimes, play with grass and various pebbles, chase the neighborhood dogs, squirrels, and cats, etc.). The rest of us prefer a tamer form of entertainment--one that doesn't require sweating in Austin's ridiculously hot great outdoors--such as "look, Sammy, a book!" or "let's play hide-and-seek with this stuffed animal" or "here are some pots and pans: have fun!" I think, actually, it is quite easy to see why Samuel prefers Dida to us. We are not nearly as exciting as watching a squirrel being chased by a flea-infested cat while listening to "tweet-tweets" and smearing moist gravel on one's face.
Samuel really wants a [root]beer:

*Also, check out the collar on the guy sitting right behind Sammy!
"Dida, let me swing that light again! Better yet: let me swing from the light!"
