Saturday afternoon was Samuel's birthday party: our baby will be a year old this Friday! Many, many thanks to everyone who helped with the party. A great big THANK YOU to Baka and Dida for offering us their home, so that we could celebrate with all our Houston friends and family. We grilled fajitas, stuffed our faces with cake, and documented Samuel's every move with our cameras. Samuel seemed to be enjoying his party until somewhere around the two hour mark, when his no-nap, upset tummy, and fever started to kick in. That's right. Our baby was sick for his first birthday. He tried his best to tolerate all the gift-giving, but the cake and birthday cupcakes were just too much. We sang "Happy Birthday," blew out the candle on his beautiful cake (he looked like he was being tortured the entire time) and then tried to entice him with the chocolate icing on his banana-nut cupcake. He smeared it all over his face in disgust and then vomitted. There were some sweet moments, though. We realized that Samuel loves cards (he payed more attention to them than to any of his gifts), we watched as he used every tall adult in the room to get closer to his first love (the ceiling fan), and we laughed when he squealed with delight and kissed the lovely, framed picture of himself from Shawna and Shamir. Here are a few pictures from our wild and crazy day:
