Samuel and the Hurricane Ike Evacuees

Well, it's been an interesting few days here in Austin. Thursday evening Baka, Dida, and Ujo Kaleb came into town, fleeing Hurricane Ike. They're still here, waiting to go home until the power returns, and our house is full and busy and noisy! We've been able to watch Houston's around-the-clock news coverage of the storm online and have heard from family and neighbors that the Fulgham house is safe and sound. Hallelujah! Our prayers and thoughts go out to all our Houston friends and family; we hope electricity returns SOON and that all tree/house damage is minimal. We haven't taken too many pictures, and the ones we have taken pretty much just feature Sammy. Here are the highlights:

We've really enjoyed having our family with us! It's been a whirlwind of telephone conversations, news, food, dishes, dirty towells, and wind chimes (that's right: we have cool weather finally!!!). Yesterday, we went for a short walk along Shoal Creek, a lovely hike and bike trail that runs throughout central Austin; sorry, no pictures of the beauty (no one was smart enough to bring a camera). We've grilled hamburgers, eaten enough eggs to feed a small village (thanks, Baka, for the migas!), enjoyed some delicious pizza at Home Slice, done a little shopping (thanks, Dida and Ujo, for watching Sammy at Target for TWO HOURS while Baka and Mama shopped till they dropped), struck up a conversation with a guy who works at Dolce Vita (found out he's half Italian, half Polish), and--here's the best part--watched a NUDE (a thong doesn't really count as clothing) bicyclist going for a leisurely ride (classic Austin!). Funny saying of the past few days?

Baka: "We're refugees!"
