Saturday morning, after a delicious breakfast at Taco Deli (seriously: their salsa is almost better than chocolate), we drove to Fredericksburg to visit with Will's family. We had lunch with Will's Oma (who at 90 years of age served us a tasty meal of fried chicken, cucumber salad, mashed potatoes, sweet rice, beets, and coconut pie) and Opa (who looks as young as ever...and is 88). Samuel, of course, ate only goldfish crackers and grapes. Here are a few pictures from our lovely afternoon:
Before going to Aunt Shelly and Gary's house, we drove out to Enchanted Rock...partly because I had never seen the beautiful "rock" but mostly because Samuel fell asleep in the car and we thought he needed a longer-than-10-minute nap. It was amazing, and we are definitely going to go again soon, when we have more time to explore and hike up the hugeness. We were treated to another delicious meal at Shelly and Gary's home, and Samuel got to see his second cousins Case and Avery. We tried to get a picture of all three of them...sitting still and looking at the camera. What we got was this:
Aren't they cutie-pies? Avery kept telling us to come outside when it was dark, because it was "so scared outside." These kids are seriously cute. Many thanks to Shelly and Gary for having us over at such late notice! We so enjoyed our visit. (Also of interest: this past weekend was Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg, and people and beer were everywhere.)
Sunday was THE DAY: Samuel's date with a haircut. We took him to a cutesy little place with toys and TVs and seats shaped like old-fashioned automobiles and Elmo, and ABSOLUTELY NONE OF IT mattered to Sammy. He was terrified of the lady who cut his hair, of sitting still, of the scissors she was holding, of the seats shaped like old-fashioned automobiles. He screamed bloody murder, and so Will--and then I--had to sit with him. This did not help whatsoever. He cried; he squirmed. Snot was everywhere. Sammy was so frightened he peed. He peed so much that it went through his diaper and onto his Mama and her skirt and her leg and into a neat little pee puddle on the floor. Yes, it was that much fun. Somehow Irene (name of the gifted and patient lady who cut his hair) was able to do her job, and in the end we were left with a snotty, teary-eyed, peed-on Sammy (and Mama) with a gorgeous new 'do. They even sent us home with a little Polaroid snap shot and a pouch labeled "My Hair" stuffed with a few strands of Sammy's hair...so that we would never forget the HELL that was his first haircut. Here he is this evening, sporting his lovely new haircut. He has obviously forgotten about Sunday afternoon:

Sounds like yall had an awesome time!!! Looks like Case and Avery are just as active as Sammy judging by the scars / scabs on their knees.
I didn't know that Sammy peed so much it went everywhere. Wow! I thought he just almost vomited...
Cool hair-doo Sammy (and in focus toes)!
Heidi, you should use this blog to embarrass Sammy when brings little girlfriends home. "M-o-o-m, don't tell her about the time I peed all over you during my first haircut!"
He looks so cute!
did Will ever tell you about the time that we went to enchanted Rock a few years ago...and he was climbing up one of the walls and fell on to a cactus?
I remember it because I thought it was pretty funny... but I don't think Will thought it was nearly as humorous as I did.
Maybe if you guys had brought a red or yellow ball with you to the barber it would have helped :-)
Kaleb, he usually doesn't pee that much. This was apparently a special circumstance :)
Rachel, I am so going to share this story with future girlfriends! Sammy has no idea how many embarrassing things we have up our sleeves...
Theo, yes, Will did tell me that story :) He mentioned that he fell backwards and you all laughed, which was not very nice in his opinion. He also told me about how on that trip you drank from a pool of stagnant water and then complained that your stomach didn't feel quite right :)
